Ethiopia Government May Ban Cotton Exports

The Ethiopia Textile Industry Development Organization (ETIDI) has drafted a proposal to prohibit the export of raw cotton, nine times out of ten.

Ethiopia's textile sector insists on the ban on raw cotton exports, mainly due to domestic cotton.

However, cotton exporters are very angry. They have expressed concern about the proposal because they have received orders from foreign customers. If the government prohibits cotton exports, it will mean that they cannot fulfill their commitments.

The additional pipeline proposed by the experts is to increase the added value of the raw cotton at home, not the export of raw cotton, as it will produce 7 times more value than the export of raw cotton and will contribute to the necessary foreign exchange income.

In the first five months of this fiscal year (April to August), India's leather exports increased by 16.3% over the same period last year, from 1 billion 200 million US dollars in the same period last year to 1 billion 400 million US dollars this year.

Over the same period, the export of leather shoes increased by 16.7% to $515 million 100 thousand, compared with $441 million 400 thousand last year, and the export of non leather shoes increased from 6 million 900 thousand to 7 million 600 thousand US dollars, an increase of 9.2% over the same period last year.

However, the export of shoe materials dropped by 1.9%, from $100 million 800 thousand to $98 million 800 thousand.
